What is SEO?

Each day, 5.6 billion searches take place on Google, and 873.9 million on Bing. When people are searching keywords and phrases related to your business, you want to appear on the first page of results.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of ensuring that your business appears as close to the top of a search as possible, without the use of paid advertising within the search engine.

Search engine optimization is a multi-faceted process. Google maintains a certain level of secrecy when it comes to how their algorithms rank search results, but there are some things SEO specialists know for sure impact your site’s search visibility.

  • Core web vitals: Google released an update to their ranking algorithm in June 2021. It factors three metrics into website rankings — Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, and First Input Delay.
  • Page load speed: Faster websites rank higher.
  • Mobile-friendliness: Over half of internet traffic comes from mobile devices like iPhones. If your website doesn’t work well on mobile, it will rank poorly.
  • User Experience & navigation: Websites that are easy to use and allow people to quickly find the information they are looking for rank higher.
  • E-A-T content: E-A-T stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. Websites that offer accurate information that people can rely on rank higher.

With these goals in mind, our search engine optimization strategy is three-fold.

  1. Technical SEO: Optimizing the functionality and performance of the website to ensure the best possible user experience. Attracting visitors is important, but it is more important that these visitors are there because they are interested in your business or product. This is where accuracy and precision in SEO come into play.

Quantity of traffic.

After establishing your specific audience, it is best to focus on the overall amount of traffic your website is receiving.

Organic results.

These are visitors who come to your website without the use of an ad in the search engine. In other words, it is traffic that you did not have to pay for.

Content creation & display.

While some see having lots of content on a webpage as a negative, it is actually very useful with regards to SEO. Here’s how we ensure that the content on your website is useful, both to your SEO and your visitors:

  • Content length: Making sure your website includes informative and useful content is important for both SEO and user satisfaction. Having a significant amount of content creates more opportunities to insert those valuable keywords we mentioned before. This also means you don’t have to worry about your website content being too long, and you can go as in depth with your text as you’d like!
  • Content that is duplicated: While having a lot of content on different topics is an advantage, using the same text on multiple pages of your website can actually negatively affect SEO. This is why we make sure to write fully original content for each part of your website.
  • Content updates: Consistently adding updated information to the pages of your website can also help push you to the tops of searches. Ways to update content vary, from blog posts, to pages detailing services and specials, to product pages that show customers what they’re buying. Not only do these practices show users that you are passionate about what you do, they’re also very beneficial for SEO.
  • Content display: As we mentioned before, the ways you place content on the page is just as important as the content itself. Interesting websites lead to engaged consumers, which leads to a higher likelihood of the consumer becoming a lead for your business.
Off-page optimization.

In addition to making sure your website is user-friendly and includes relevant information, SEO also depends on factors typically outside of your control. These include:

  • Linking domains: This is the most important factor of off-page optimization. In short, this is the amount of domains outside of your own that are linking to your website. Obviously, the more of these there are, the better. However, SEO also takes into account the domain authority of these pages. Some websites have a higher position in the Internet ‘hierarchy’ than others, and the higher the linking page’s ranking, the more of a boost your page will receive.
  • Link type diversity: Having too many links of one type on your website is also something to watch out for. It’s entirely possible for SEO programs to see this as potential spam, therefore affecting your rankings negatively.
  • Including contextual links: Links that are inserted into the content of a webpage on your site are ‘worth more’ than links placed in the sidebar. For instance, inserting a link to our case studies here is more effective for SEO than adding it to its own location on the page.
