THE CLIENT
Founded in 1992, Austin Parks Foundation (APF) is dedicated to partnering with the Austin community to enhance people’s lives by making our public parks, trails, and green spaces better.
With a combination of events, volunteerism, innovative programming, advocacy, and financial support, APF continues to keep Austin’s parks clean, safe, and beautiful.
The Challenge
When Austin Parks Foundation came to us for help, we were over the moon – partnering with local nonprofits to promote their causes is an important part of the Blackhawk mission.
Their challenge lay in the fact that their park search, the system that allowed users to find parks near them, was broken and not user friendly. They were looking for an experienced website and technology team to fix this feature and improve the UX/UI of both the search and individual park pages.
This included creating a filter system that allowed users to find parks near them based on their location, the activity they were looking to do, or specific park amenities.

HOW WE HELPED
Blackhawk helped redesign and expand APF’s old park search database to make it more user friendly and robust.
We also added 89 for those who are curious that weren’t previously on their site, and created a larger overall database for park information on all of the new pages, as well as the old.
In addition to looking pretty, the park search database now has a brand new flow – it’s not only easier and quicker for users to search for a park, but users can search by location, amenities, and even activity!
