Social media engagement is like being a teenager all over again.
Everyone is trying to be the popular kid. And once you are, there is no going back. Everyone has social media accounts but not all of those accounts “sit at the cool kids table” and have actual engagement.
Now, all awkward teenage memories aside, any good digital marketer knows the importance of social media. However, what few people understand is the importance of ENGAGEMENT on social media. Social media is the place for you and your company to show off your brand and culture to the world. More importantly, social media is a place for PEOPLE to interact and engage with your company. So, how do you do it? How do you go from the social media engagement virgin to the social media engagement stud? Read more to find out!
First and foremost, you can’t experience the highly coveted and yearned for “engagement” without knowing what it is. Well, the ins and outs of social media engagement simply lie with interaction. The interaction between your company’s brand and your users, and potential customers. This interaction can come in the form of page clicks, likes, comments, shares, reactions, etc. The more you have, the more organic attention you are drawing to your brand! More so, you are beginning to build a community and following based on your brand and content. Ditch the limp social media campaigns and follow the below tips to pump up your social media engagement!
Post Often
Just like with anything, social media engagement only gets better with practice. So, like a teenage couple with their parents out of town, practice often and practice safely. In all simplicity, it is just a numbers game. The more you post, the more chances there are for your audience to interact with said posts and engage with your brand. Posting quality content on a consistent basis can be difficult, but fear no more, we’ve got you covered! Check out this article to continue to push out premium social media content. Most importantly, the more you practice and post the more you can understand what your audience likes and dislikes, and what they engage with! You may find out certain patterns or trends based on when and what you post. So point blank, devote time to creating new content!
Entertain
Social media engagement is NOT a Netflix and Chill hookup session. In fact, it is the complete antithesis! We’re talking fancy five star dinners with those waiters with funny bow ties and rose petals on the bed. Your audience doesn’t want to be invited to take a peek at your company and be bored! Rather, they want to be wined and dined, so entertain them! Take the time to come up with original and creative content FOR your audience. That’s right, you shouldn’t be pushing content for yourself, instead, be a giver and tailor your posts to your audiences likes, dislikes, and motives. Being a giver pays off as you will soon see your target audience truly enjoying and interacting with your posts. No great relationship starts with a “Netflix and Chill” so invest the time and effort to spoil your audience with entertaining and enjoyable content![
You have to ask
Remember that nerd in High School who started dating that super hot cheerleader and you were just like, “Umm… what, why, how?!” Well odds are that only happened because said nerd had the courage to ask the cheerleader out (and maybe that nerd had the leverage of being a future billionaire but that’s another story… cough cough @ElonMusk). My goal for you is to be that nerd with the hot significant other! And that is totally possible… if you ask the right questions at the right times. In short, be bold. Don’t be afraid to ask your audience to comment, like, and share. You’d be surprised by how people act when they are prompted to do so! This idea is also known as a “Call to Action” (check out how to nail a “call to action” closing here). Sometimes a little nudge in the right direction is all it takes and next think you know you’ll be dancing to “I Want to Know What Love Is” at your Junior Prom with that particularly attractive CAPTAIN of the Pom Squad who wouldn’t look your way two months ago.
Image and Video
In a relationship, words can only get you so far. In fact, one could argue that words can only get you that first date. Your actions and personality is what’s going to keep those dates coming. In the world of social media, think of images and videos as the “actions and personality” of the post. With that being said, the audience won’t fall in love with your words. Rather, they will fall in love, and notice, your images and videos. So, ensure that you are posting clear and sharp images and videos. They don’t have to be perfect but do your best to make them as visually appealing as possible. You don’t need to be a designer to produce beautiful content. All in all, we want you to be that kid at the lunch table with something to brag about, and you do too, right?
